Teenage cancer fundraiser Stephen Sutton has been honoured by Virgin Trains, who have named a train in his memory.

Stephen died last year after battling with cancer, and he won the hearts of a nation thanks to his incredible fundraising efforts and the “thumbs up” message he gave from his hospital bed.

The inspiring 19-year-old raised almost £5 million for Teenage Cancer Trust – with nearly a quarter of that figure donated after his death on May 14th 2014.

Virgin Trains has renamed Pendolino 390002 in Stephen’s honour. The renaming comes as part of the Pride of Birmingham Awards, held by the Birmingham Mail.

Stephen’s mother has said that she is an “unbelievably proud mum”, and she collected a posthumous MBE on her son’s behalf in November 2014.
