Rethink Rebuild Society
The charity, in partnership with Syria Relief, fund school projects in areas of Syria which have been affected by violent conflict, and as a result, children have been unable to get access to schools and education for a number of years.
Iqraa School in the Al-Sahara village in the north of Syria accommodates almost 380 pupils aged 6-15 and over 20 members of staff, including a number of displaced children and orphans. It has been funded by the Syrian Community of Manchester since it was established in September 2014 and provides a range of support for the children, from psychological and medical support to education.
Made possible by the generosity of the Manchester community by donations, charity fundraisers, and money boxes, the school is now in its third year and is aiming to raise £40,000 to cover the running cost of the upcoming academic year.
The Great Manchester Run
As a part of their ongoing fundraising work, the charity is asking for as many adults and children to get involved in next week’s runs as possible. Everyone is invited to participate in the run, as every penny raised goes towards achieving the school’s funding target. Your generosity ensures the children are not missing out on basic education for another year.
The adult 10k takes place a week on Sunday, May 22nd and costs £38 to enter. The Mini Great Run involves two short distance runs, 2.3k junior (9-15 year-olds) and 1.5k mini run (3-8 year-olds), costing £15 and £14 to enter, respectively. The smaller runs are taking place at Manchester City’s Etihad Campus a week on Saturday, May 21st, with the fun starting at 9am.
You can run and raise vital funds for the cause by joining The Great Manchester Run or Mini Great Manchester Run here. Once you’ve entered to take part, you can name Syria Relief as your chosen charity on your own JustGiving page and join the rest of the team on www.justgiving.com/teams/runforsyria.
